Homespun on the web

A range of British-made products like Medlar jelly are on sale from a new shop called BritShopS (www.britshops.co.uk).

Starting with just one supplier, Cegin Pennant – makers of jam, chutneys, traditional Welsh Bara Brith and other baked goods – the company was launched last year on the internet by Steve Williams and Alan Cumbers, in response to the decline of traditional British shops and the demise of the friendly local shopkeeper.

Their aim is to sell an increasing range of British produce, some of it seasonal, and all of the highest quality.

BritShopS has proved popular with the buying public and is continuing to attract new suppliers.

The site's wide range of products also includes real ales from the Breconshire Brewery, fruit juices from Brogdale (an arm of the National Fruit Collection at Faversham in Kent), together with hand-produced Celtic-inspired jewellery from Wales.

There is also a range of sapphire and diamond pendants that has been created exclusively for BritShopS.
